Call To Artists: Online Exhibition
Sweet Nothings: Postcards from Art Students, Juried by Sean Sullivan and Sarah Barnett
Washington State University’s Department of Fine Arts invites art students to submit small 2D artworks for consideration for an online group exhibition centering on mail art, postcards and letters of affection. These artworks need to fit on a standard 4 ¼ x 6 inch postcard and need to be addressed to the WSU Fine Arts Department. This call is open to any artist living in the United States and currently enrolled in a BFA or MFA program.

Call for Submissions
Associate Professor of Fine Arts Peter Christenson is organizing a group gallery exhibition and inviting email submissions of high resolution screenshots of <Phone Text Message Threads> that occurred any time on December 19 from 12:00AM – 11:59PM.
All languages, all ages, all folx are welcome to submit to this exhibition. All submitted screenshots of text threads must have occurred on December 19 2020.
If you would like to participate in this project, please send 1-3 hi-res screenshots of your Text Message Threads as PNG or JPG with name, bio, and contact information directly to peter.christenson@wsu.edu.
Deadline for exhibition submissions is January 19, 2021

Fine arts education flourishes in face of pandemic
“Remote teaching certainly hasn’t slowed us down. In fact, these strange times have helped us reimagine new, more expanded ways to reach out to our students while still having deep and meaningful experiences in the virtual classroom,” said Io Palmer, associate professor of fine arts and ceramics coordinator.

Faculty Awarded for Art History Research
Dr. Hallie Meredith was awarded SECAC’s William R. Levin Award for Research in the History of Art before 1750 for her project, “Fragmentary and Unfinished Art: Documenting Undocumented Late Roman Art and Process.”

A solo show of drawings and wall works by Avantika Bawa, ICE. ICE pays homage to the Georgia Archives building in Atlanta, GA. “Through repetitive and obsessive visual iterations of this building, I experience the endless possibilities of examining one specific subject. As a result, the Georgia Archives has become an examination of the abstraction and history of a place through a rigorous inquiry of its forms.”

Vestigial | Opens January 18
Washington State University Vancouver (WSUV) Fine Arts Department is pleased to present Vestigial, an exhibition of mixed media works featuring graduating seniors Laura Ballard and Sharalee Chwaliszewski. Drawing upon memory, intuition, and experience, the artists explore the demands of motherhood and the freedom of the studio as forces that have shaped their natural creativity.

WSU Tri-Cities multimedia arts course a natural fit for hands-on, virtual learning
“For an Art, Science and Technology course at Washington State University Tri-Cities, the transition to virtual learning proved not only to be a natural transition. It played to the course’s sweet spot.
As the title of the course suggests, students bring together what some may consider two sides of a coin – art, and science and technology. But for Peter Christenson, an associate professor of fine arts, the blending of the two fields is natural.
Through the course, Christenson has students create devices that are not only visually appealing, but bridge the gap between physical art and what can be presented digitally online. The sharing of these projects online, he said, provides a perfect fit for virtual learning.”
