Add creativity to your WSU degree

Adding a minor in art is an excellent way to deepen your critical engagement other fields of study. Each option requires 18 hours of coursework, including 9 hours of 300-400 level coursework taken in residence at WSU or through WSU-approved education abroad or educational exchange courses.

Art minor

  • Art I: Two Dimensional Art (ART 102) or Art II: Three Dimensional Art (ART 103)
  • Beginning Drawing (ART 110)
  • One art history course:
    • World Art History to 1450 (ART 201) or
    • World Art History 1450-present (ART 202) or
    • Modern Art-20th century (ART 304)
  • Plus 9 elective credit hours (3 courses) of upper division ART courses (300 or 400 level)

Art history minor

  • World Art History to 1450 (ART 201)
  • World Art History 1450-present (ART 202)
  • Plus 12 elective credit hours (4 courses) of upper division ART courses (301 through 309, 310, 400, 403 through 405)

Exhibition studies minor

An interdisciplinary minor that can open career opportunities in museum, gallery,
collections management and/or as a cultural institution professional.

  • Core electives: 6 credit hours (two courses) from the following:
    • 3D Art and Design (ART 103)
    • World Art History I (ART 201)
    • Gallery Procedures with WSU Museum of Art (ART 490)
    • Public History: Theory and Methodology (HIST 427)
  • Electives I: 6 credit hours (2 courses) from the following:
    • Art and Society (ANTH 201)
    • Archaeological Theory and Explanation (ANTH 430)
    • Visual Communication (ID 205)
    • Media, Culture, and Society (SOC 373)
  • Electives II: 6 elective credit hours (2 courses) from a wide range of selected courses in art, anthropology, AMDT, communications, digital technology & culture, English, foreign languages, history, interior design, landscape architecture, management, design & construction, sociology, soil sciences, and/or teaching & learning.
