Sidney del Ray Murphy majored in anthropology and history with a minor in exhibition studies from WSU. Murphy is pursuing a master’s in museum and exhibition studies at the University of Illinois at Chicago.

 

Fine Arts News

 

Io Palmer will be exhibiting Desired Interruptions at the Boise Art Museum August 22, 2020-January 31, 2021. The exhibition is comprised of artwork inspired by material culture and systems of control. Palmer explores the arbitrary and abstract construct of borders that are connected to a general sense of personal and cultural boundaries, in both physical and metaphoric ways.

Io Palmer has a new Instagram space for her mural project, Concept Clay, with the Elson S. Floyd college of medicine. The team, comprised of Kassie Smith and Siri Stensberg, will be doing live video demonstrations and posting fun tests, experiments and progress updates frequently at @concept.clay

 

Graduate student Sean Sullivan will be exhibiting a solo show Dare to Judge with UW’s Jacob Lawrence Gallery and giving live conversations with the curator, Stefan Leandro Gonzales, every Friday of September at 6pm through Twitch. These conversations with the artist will focus on the connection between the queer experience and domestic spaces. Weekly Exhibition stream hours: Tue-Fri 7:30am-9:30am, Sat-Sun 11:30pm-12:30am.

Kevin Haas is included in the Terrain Gallery Exhibition and Auction, Art in the Time of Quarantine, featuring 26 artists who have created work around a common theme: The world they envision and/or hope to see as we emerge from the pandemic. The closing event is September 1st, 6pm.

Peter Christenson is participating in the collaborative project Null Set, a perpetually shifting and quasi-decentralized group of creatives with deep ties to the Columbia Basin which has released a limited edition 50-page magazine of provocative projects, writings, and interviews that explore the recently coined artist movement: Art Pandemos.

The collaborative has opened up a free-to-all bartering process and arts exchange where interested parties are invited to email Null Set with a proposal or description of what they would be willing to trade (painting, print, zine, rock, photo, a smile) for a copy of the limited edition magazine. Black Lives Matter Artist Grant Program at the Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art WSU

The JSMA WSU Black Lives Matter Artist Grant Program will distribute $2,500 grants to 20 artists across the state of Washington who will be asked to use their voices, experiences, and artistic expression to reflect on social justice efforts in response to systemic racism. Submit applications here.
